What happens when children do not learn to manage their emotions?

Every parent wants their child to be happy and well-adjusted. But what happens when a child doesn't get help to manage their emotions? What happens to a child who tries to survive everyday life with tantrums, tantrums or complete withdrawal?

In childhood, it's "just" tantrums... later, more serious problems

Children's emotions are intense, and if they don't learn to manage them, their lives will be affected in the long term.

Home - The family atmosphere becomes tense because of the constant conflicts. The parent feels helpless because he feels that every day is a struggle. The child either becomes increasingly defiant or withdrawn because he learns that he is left alone with his feelings. After a while, they no longer share their inner world and a deep distance develops between parent and child.

In school - The child can't concentrate because he is distracted by the tension inside. When he has tantrums, teachers treat him as a "problem" and he is increasingly ostracised by his peers. If he withdraws, he goes unnoticed and no one notices that he is suffering inside. Learning becomes a struggle and the school environment a source of stress.

Contemporary links - A child who can't manage his or her emotions has difficulty forming friendships. A fight can easily become final because he doesn't know how to resolve conflicts. If he reacts excessively angrily, others fear him. And if he always keeps his feelings bottled up, he can't really relate to others and feels like an outsider.

Adulthood - Failure to process emotions can have serious consequences:

  • Workplace problems: They may experience criticism as a personal attack or find it difficult to cope with stress, so they often change jobs or avoid challenges altogether.
  • Relationship problems: They cannot express their feelings or react too impulsively to any conflict. This makes relationships superficial, stormy or one-sided.
  • Mental health problems: Emotions suppressed over the years can turn into anxiety, depression or even self-worth problems.

The solution: Developing emotional intelligence from an early age

Emotional stability is not an inborn gift - it has to be learned. The sooner a child is given the tools to recognise and manage their emotions, the more likely they are to become a balanced, confident and successful adult.

Imagine what it would be like if your child:

✅ Recognise when you are angry or sad and know how to calm yourself down.
✅ He wouldn't try to get what he wants with hysteria, but would be able to put his feelings into words.
✅ Learn how to handle conflicts so that your relationships are not damaged.

It's not a dream - it's a learnable skill! From Emotional Storm Management Workshop we use stories, games and creative tools to help children learn to understand and process their emotions.
